Palette Hotel

Proposed Industry: Hospitality
Scope: Brand Identity + Personas, Logo, Environmental, Packaging, & Print Design

Overview: Class Project. Located in a revamped 4-story townhouse in Paris’ Montmartre district, lies Palette Hotel. The project brief is that client Guillaume fell in love with Montmartre and wanted a hotel in the area and needed strategy and branding work done.

Approach: The location of the hotel heavily influenced all aspects of this project from the beginning. Historic. Eclectic. Chiq.
After reviewing competitor’s brands & researching the target audience, a contemporary high art style was found to accomplish the desired boutique feel. This style would mesh well with the district. I first created two brand concepts, took the successful elements from each, implemented feedback, then finalized the brand identity and the rollout/collateral.

My Process

Insight: Palette Hotel’s branding is inspired by French impressionist paintings of the 1800s, specifically the many tiny brush strokes that together create the painting. The would-be guests would contribute to this metaphorical painting and would color the hotel’s “canvas” with their presence.

Exercises, Ideation, & Exploration: Early versions of the branding elements included abstracting images with a pixelated, color halftone treatment as a digital interpretation of impressionist brush strokes.
The original imagery was focused more on night life—this had made the brand more youthful, but lost the high-art feeling that I wanted.

Wow!
